The AngioNet project “Development of public research and progress infrastructure and creation of new infrastructures” and its good results are the main proof that objectives can be met and even surpassed through a well thought out strategy and a coherent management, encouraging team spirit and good communication and collaboration.

With a funding of 25 million EUR through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Operational Program for “Increasing Economic Competitiveness” and the “Operational Competitiveness Program” 2014-2020 the AngioNet project has been carried out in 2 phases over a period of 6 years:

Phase 1 – 2015 acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art angiography equipment for 17 research centers countrywide;

Phase 2 – 2017 – 2021 – conducting research activities based on the equipment purchased in phase 1 and supplemented by other equipment in phase 2, which allowed all centers to be connected on a common research platform for collecting and interpreting clinical and imaging data from patients, as well as integrating these data into software applications that allow multicriteria analysis in strategic research fields addressed by the project.

The concepts analized by the AngioNet project cover:

  1. Pathology of cerebral arteries.
  2. Acute coronary syndromes. Myocardial infarction.
  3. Diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease in children.
  4. Implementation of the “Heart Team” concept, through which the diagnosis and treatment are made not by a single specialist doctor but by a team that ensures a multidisciplinary approach, thus reducing the risk of errors.
  5. Peripheral arteriopathy.
  6. Angio architectonics of malignant tumours.

The results of the AngioNet project and the involvement of research teams have exceeded expectations and the project is now in its last stage of drafting conclusions and drawing recommendations.
